Tom Hillenbrand is Program Manager of UL’s Fire Equipment Services (FES) providing testing, inspection, and certification of Fire Department aerial devices, pumpers, and aircraft rescue firefighting (ARFF) vehicles, ambulances, and ground ladders. This includes testing and certification of new fire trucks at the manufacturing location as well as in-service fire trucks, ARFF vehicles, and ground ladders.
Tom has a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a Registered Professional Engineer. Tom has been with UL for 38 years, including 20 years in Fire Equipment Services. He represents UL as the Principle Member of NFPA Technical Committees for NFPA Standards for:
• Automotive Fire Apparatus (NFPA 1901)
• Wildland Fire Apparatus (NFPA 1906)
• Inspection, Maintenance, Testing, and Retirement of In-Service Automotive (NFPA 1911)
• Automotive Ambulances (NFPA 1917)
• Ground Ladder Design and Testing Standards (NFPA 1931 & 1932)
• Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program (NFPA 1500)
Tom has experience in the development of product testing and certification programs for both factory and field assessments. Responsibilities as Program Manager for Fire Equipment Services include:
• Developing and reviewing UL SOPs, test procedures and data sheets for testing, inspection, and certification of Fire Department aerial devices, pumpers, and aircraft rescue firefighting (ARFF) vehicles, ambulances, and ground ladders.
• Developing inspection and testing requirements for new services.
