Professor Jeremy Russell-Smith is an ecologist with 30 years of experience in the fire-prone savannas of northern Australia and neighbouring Asian regions. In recent years a key research focus has involved developing commercial greenhouse emissions abatement and carbon sequestration opportunities derived from savanna fire management, particularly as means for supporting north Australian Indigenous land management enterprises. As part of a suite of projects
being undertaken through the Bushfires and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre, he is involved with assessing issues contributing to community resilience in remote north Australian communities. He is based at the Darwin Centre for Bushfires Research, Charles Darwin University.
